This volume reconstructs the contributions that Alfredo Reichlin, one of the fundamental points of reference of the Italian left, made to his country’s history, culture and politics. Retracing the various chapters of his life, from his youth in the Roman Resistance to the roles he held in the Communist Party and then in the Democratic Party, until his last years, rich in analysis and reflections on the world of the early 21st century. The volume opens with an introduction by Giuliano Amato and ends with a fourth section entitled A European play: The silence of the communists in the theatre, with texts by Roberta Carlotto, Georges Banu and Marc Lazar, regarding the success of the theatrical show staged in 2006 by Luca Ronconi based on the 2002 book of the same name, which consisted in an exchange of letters between Vittorio Foa, Miriam Mafai and Reichlin.
