Àmen, a blend of photography and painting, evokes the work of Maloberti Trionfo dell’Aurora (Triumph of Aurora), conceived in 2018. This is not a form of lifeless appropriation; its aim actually seems to be to awaken sensitivity, or even shock the public, which often acts as a privileged medium for the artist, or rather for his “body”. The formula used, liturgical par excellence, gives rise to a kind of theatrical play; in fact, it seems as if we are peeking through a curtain at an African boy who is cutting out “the works of white Western painters” that usually embellish 15th-century buildings or Baroque domes. The fragments, which are decontextualised and turned upside down, recreate, as Maloberti wrote, “a dizzying array of names: Dosso Dossi and the silence of butterflies; Bronzino, the painter of sidelong glances; Raphael, who painted wind tossing hair; Veronese’s blue, like the sapphire of the heavens; Pontormo and his angels, both divine and devilish at the same time; Savoldo and the silvery moon of Mary Magdalene’s mantle; the selfish elegance of Rosso Fiorentino; Correggio, Jupiter and Io; Giorgione with Ecce Homo and so on ad infinitum”.
