    Bitossi Ceramiche

    In 1921 Guido Bitossi founded the Guido Bitossi artistic majolica manufacture, which has the vocation to carry on a production deeply linked to the classic style of the past, with an accurate refinement of the product. The Bitossi are not new to the world of ceramics: their first documented presence in the territory of Montelupo Fiorentino dates back to 1536, a place not far from the city of Florence and historically linked to the ceramic tradition. Since its foundation, the Bitossi manufacture has been distinguished by a continuous openness to innovation and contributes to writing an important chapter in the history of Italian design of the last century.

    The great turning point towards an opening to the contemporary age coincides with the advent of Aldo Londi as the artistic director of the company in 1946: the painter, sculptor and above all ceramist marks an important point for the company, with him the the company begins to design and manufacture products with an unmistakable character, in a perfect balance between past, present and future. There are many great names that will cross the path of Bitossi Ceramiche: one of them all, the famous architect Ettore Sottsass, who begins to frequent the Manufacture in 1955 to give life to a series of ceramics bearing his signature. There will be many creations born from the collaboration between Sottsass, Londi and the master potters of this historic Tuscan reality, which, even today, is managed by the Bitossi family and which continues to carry the name of high Italian craftsmanship all over the world.

    In the 2000s, the iconic collections from the Aldo Londi Historical Archive were re-edited and re-presented on the market, testifying to how essential the example of the great Master is even after more than fifty years from the original production. With the example of Londi as a point of reference, Bitossi Ceramiche confirms itself every day as one of the most excellent representatives of made in Italy design, able to keep the attention towards the product at the center, without forgetting the ancient knowledge of techniques of manual processing of tradition but always with an eye to tomorrow.
