Cinema neorealista

Neorealism is probably the most important period in the history of Italian cinema. Mario Verdone pays tribute to the extraordinary creative works that emerged from the ashes of World War II, which were adapted by various directors, including Roberto Rossellini, Vittorio De Sica, Luchino Visconti, Pietro Germi, Alberto Lattuada, Giuseppe De Santis and Alessandro Blasetti. His entry on Italian Neorealism, written for the Enciclopedia Italiana, is accompanied here by a selection of essays drawing parallels and connections between cinema, literature and theatre. As in a relay, which also carries an emotional message, it is then the turn of his sons Carlo and Luca, who acknowledge the lessons of neorealism and those who experienced a unique time in history which, through powerful images and storytelling, continues to inspire and influence the cinema industry worldwide to this day.
