The subject of an exhibition in the prestigious Sala del Camino on the Noble Floor of the Uffizi, entitled Andy Warhol photographed by Aurelio Amendola. New York 1977 and 1986 (2016), the famous shot by Amendola is reprinted in a limited edition ad hoc for Treccani. Maestro Amendola immortalizes Warhol on two occasions: first as part of a report on the protagonists of American pop art for the magazine "Oggi" (1977); then, after almost a decade, in 1986, with a second campaign that precedes the death of the great artist by a few months. Unlike the previous shots, which portrayed Warhol in his studio together with the representative objects of his work, in the latest photographs by Amendola Warhol is the absolute protagonist of the image. A reflection on the portrait and the expressiveness of the lights and shadows that animate the face of the genius of Pop Art, Amendola's shot returns all the humanity of an extraordinary protagonist of world contemporary art.

Italian photographer (b. Pistoia 1938). Self-taught, from the debut shots made in the 1960s of Giovanni Pisano's Pulpit of Sant'Andrea in Pistoia, which was followed by photographs of architectural masterpieces such as the Robbian frieze of the Ospedale del Ceppo in Pistoia, Santa Maria della Spina and the Baptistery in Pisa and San Pietro in Vaticano, over time he has conducted a complex research on the bodies and faces of the Italian Renaissance and Baroque works. Careful investigator of the human body as a place of preferential access to emotions, characters, attitudes of the soul, in his shots - thanks also to the perfect mastery of the technique of black and white - he amplifies plasticism and expressiveness to compose a metadiscourse on art , as in the case of the photographs of Michelangelo's sculptures (collected in the volume An eye on Michelangelo, 1994, dedicated to the Medici chapel of San Lorenzo in Florence and winner of the Goldoni Oscar), which enhance their emotional impact with an unusual dramatic visual, or in those of the works of Jacopo della Quercia, Donatello and Bernini. The portraits of masters such as De Chirico, Lichtenstein, Pomodoro, Schifano and Warhol are born from the same attitude to fully penetrate the artistic discourse, overcoming the surface of aesthetics, captured in the creative gesture or alongside their works. Author of monographs dedicated to major contemporary sculptors and painters, such as M. Marini, A. Burri, G. Manzù, J. Kounellis, M. Pistoletto and M. Paladino, awarded with important awards - among others the Cino da Pistoia prize ( 1997), the Micco prize of the city of Pistoia (2012) and the Una Vita per l'Arte 2016 prize of Gaeta -, his works, present in prestigious collections such as those of the MAXXI in Rome, the Alberto Burri Foundation and the Uffizi, have been exhibited in major Italian and international museums, such as the Royal Palace (1995), the Museo Nacional Centro de Arte Reina Sofía in Madrid (2006), the Hermitage in St. Petersburg (2007, the first artist to set up a photographic exhibition there), the Castello di Rivoli (2008), the Milan Triennale (2014), the Medici Chapels in Florence (2014), the Uffizi Galleries (2016), the Museum of Contemporary Sculpture in Matera (2018)
