Treccani pays homage to a master of Italian art and to the concept of the Encyclopaedia as a source of inspiration for contemporary creativity, fifty years after the notorious historic exhibition in which Emilio Isgrò displayed volumes of the Treccani Encyclopedia with the text crossed out. When the Schwarz Gallery in Milan mounted the highly anticipated Isgrò exhibition, the pages of large volumes of the Grande Encyclopaedia Treccani were covered with bold black erasures and hung on the walls as if they were paintings... some volumes were set on black pedestals, thus proclaiming their origin: “Enciclopedia Treccani”. Treccani Arte has decided to celebrate the anniversary of that exhibition by inviting the Maestro to engage for a second time with the Grande Encyclopaedia, by creating a special large-format edition. Isgrò responded to the invitation by using a text composed in the typical characters of the Italian Encyclopedia and crossing out all the entries with the typical Treccani red, exempting only twenty entries... including those on Dante Alighieri, Michelangelo Buonarroti, Giuseppe Verdi and Albert Einstein.
