An orientation tool in the territories of Italian literature of the new millennium, this volume aims not only to take stock of the current situation of the novel, poetry and criticism in Italy, but to deal with some of the key issues of the current critical debate on literary contemporaneity.

The reaffirmation of the role of criticism in the face of the pitfalls of disintermediation and the pressures of the publishing market; hybridization of genres; the rebirth of poetics; the encroachment of poetry into the territories of performance are some of the most important themes of a multi-voiced work which, despite the repeated diagnoses of the loss of centrality of the literary word and many complacent denunciations of its inexorable drift in the hypertrophic multimedia magma, reaffirms the conviction that literature continues to maintain its strong identity, its specific and distinct autonomy of forms and structures.

This volume takes up the studies gathered in the issue of the magazine "CARTADITALIA" dedicated to the "Italian literature of the new century" and some of the interventions to the debate General states of the new Italian literature, held at the Italian Cultural Institute of Brussels from 6 to 7 June 2019 on the occasion of the presentation of the magazine.
