Reproduction of the magnificent gold-illuminated Bible by Pietro Cavallini, preserved at the Riunite Civica and A. Ursino Recovery libraries in Catania (ms. A.72). This is one of the most extraordinary manuscripts of Christian Holy Scriptures produced in the Middle Ages, a masterpiece of the Italian miniature, considered one of the five most beautiful Bibles in the world. The manuscript is decorated with over 100 historiated and figured miniatures, 167 decorated initials – almost all with gold leaf – and over 270 handwriting variants. The codex consists of 440 headings (Old and New Testaments, Epistles and Prologues of Saint Jerome). The volume is accompanied by a Commentary section containing a Preface by Enzo Bianco, essays by Carlo Ossola, Rita Angela Carbonaro and Alessandro Tomei, a codicological card by Gianluca M. Millesoli and various out-of-text colour plates.
