The interpretation of cielo (i.e. sky) provided by Alessandro Piangiamore, an artist who is known for creating fantastical atmospheres inspired by the works of Jorge Luis Borges, is anything but didactic; it is an ironic piece that plays with the concepts of reality and appearance, blending them
together. The “hemispheric vault” is nowhere to be seen here. In fact, the only hint of blue is to be found in the head of one of the two subjects of the photo: two parrots, representing the natural world, which is often featured in Piangiamore’s experiments. A mysterious figure, seen from behind and wearing a blue suit jacket, is putting the parrots in one of his pockets: a space that is far more
banal than ethereal, without any horizon.
