Catalog of the Italian Pavilion at the 59th International Art Exhibition - La Biennale di Venezia

History of the Night and Destiny of the Comets is the title of the Italian Pavilion at the 59th International Art Exhibition - La Biennale di Venezia, curated by Eugenio Viola, who for the first time in its history, presents the work of a single artist, Gian Maria Tosatti.
The catalog is the story of the work and thought that guided the artist and the curator up to the creation of the work designed for the Tese delle Vergini at the Arsenale, strongly transformed by Tosatti's installation work. The contributions of Dario Franceschini, Roberto Cicutto and Onofrio Cutaia introduce the complex imaginary linked to the project that is revealed in the critical text by Eugenio Viola, in the diary and in the text by Gian Maria Tosatti, in the dialogue between artist and curator, but above all in the well-known article by Pier Paolo Pasolini, The emptiness of power in Italy or The article of the fireflies, appeared in the Corriere della Sera on 1 February 1975.
Ample space is dedicated to the photographs of Mimmo Jodice, shots stolen inside factories between the sixties and seventies, and the photos of the nineties by Giulia Piscitelli, which represent the perfect metaphor of the decline of the industrial dream between hope, misery, wealth. and cynicism.
