Artistic Catalogue on History of the Night and Destiny of the Comets

Storia della Notte e Destino delle Comete is the title of the Italian Pavilion for the 59th Esposizione Internazionale d’Arte - La Biennale di Venezia, curated by Eugenio Viola, which for the first time in its history is focused on the work of a single artist: Gian Maria Tosatti.
The catalogue tells the story of the work and thoughts which guided the artist and the curator in the creation of the work designed for the Tese delle Vergini at the Arsenale, powerfully transformed by Tosatti's installation. The contributions of Dario Franceschini, Roberto Cicutto and Onofrio Cutaia introduce the complex web of imagination linked to the project developed in the critical text by Eugenio Viola and in the diaries and texts by Gian Maria Tosatti, and in the dialogue between artist and curator. A major presence is the famed article by Pier Paolo Pasolini, The Vacuum of Power in Italy, also known as The street prostitutes article, which appeared in the Corriere della Sera on February 1, 1975.
Considerable space is dedicated to the photographs of Mimmo Jodice, with photos stolen inside factories between the 1960s and 70s, and photos of the 1990s by Giulia Piscitelli, which represent perfect metaphors of the decline of the industrial dream in terms of hope, misery, wealth and cynicism.
