Under The Sign Of (REVENGE) is a limited edition of 100 unique copies in 60 x 80 cm format, on which the artist Nico Vascellari has intervened manually, pressing a mould covered with varying colours against the paper. Each of the 100 copies is different from all the others, the result of dynamic performative interventions by the artist. The colour residues – green, pink, yellow, orange and red – vary significantly from one version to another, both in terms of quantity and quality. Each print preserves the traces of Vascellari's actions: dripping, sliding, folding and rippling effects accumulate continuously. These creations are based on a residual element of the work Revenge (2007), which won the young artist award at the 52nd Venice Biennale and was later rearranged in Rome’s MAXXI museum in 2018. The white spaces are dominated by the black silk-screened silhouette of a leafy branch. A slab of wood – carved and then burned – displays the same branch shape: Vascellari has covered it with sprayed colours and firmly impressed it, several times, on each silk screen print. These various processing phases, and their unpredictable outcomes, contribute to the creation of each image and finally settle as finished works only in the observer’s eye: each of the one hundred copies, in other words, is unique and significantly different from all the others.
