      The Istituto della Enciclopedia Italiana was founded in 1925, on the initiative of Giovanni Treccani degli Alfieri and Giovanni Gentile. Ever since, Treccani has accompanied the history of Italy by closely following its events, offering systematic testimony to Italian cultural identity, but also acting as a safe guide to discovering the contemporary world.

      The history of the company and of Italy have been intertwined for a long and deeply significant period. A huge catalogue of works has been created related to the theme of Italianness, understood as local cultural roots and backing for the artisan, technical and artistic skills of large institutions including the School of the Art of Medal making and the State Mint.

      Its name was provided by the well-known architect and designer Alessandro Mendini.
