The Istituto della Enciclopedia Italiana Treccani, i.e. Treccani Italian Encyclopaedia Institute – which has always strived to enhance and protect Italy’s cultural heritage – has decided to dedicate a new series to the Capitals of Culture. The first books, edited by Maria Cristina Rodeschini, Director of the Accademia Carrara museum, will be dedicated to Bergamo and Brescia, Capitals of Culture for 2023.

The thousand-year-old history of the city of Bergamo is based on fascinating cultural values, which are deeply rooted in the spirit of the place. It is also the city that was most affected by the Covid pandemic and that reacted in a dignified manner to one of the worst tragedies in Italy’s recent history. The aim of this book is to link its glorious past with the present through the writings of several authors who describe a small but very important city, firmly rooted in its traditions, and yet interested in learning more about and getting involved in the latest developments in contemporary society.

Product details

The book, edited by M. Cristina Rodeschini, Director of the Accademia Carrara museum, will include contributions from various professors and authors based in the Bergamo area. Multiple sections will be dedicated to architecture, landscapes and visual arts, with contributions from Manuela Bandini, Mauro Ceruti, Francesco Frangi, Maria Manca, Paolo Plebani Valentina Raimondo, Monica Resmini, and Daniela Salvetti
