Corum Watch

Famous for the aesthetic quality and excellent technical performance of its models, the Corum brand has succeeded in preserving and passing on the mastery and values of traditional Swiss high-end watchmaking. Established in 1955 in La Chaux-de-Fonds (a city declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site and renowned for its ancient watchmaking factories), Corum continues to pursue the path laid out by its founders, staying true to the emblematic collections that have shaped its identity and enhancing them with cutting-edge technology. In 1964, Corum created the Coin Watch with a slogan that became very popular, i.e. ‘time is money’: a valuable collector’s item such as a coin was immortalised in a watch. For the dial, the first historic gold coin that Corum chose was the American ‘$20 coin’, a symbol of the mythical golden age of US pioneers. The Coin Watches soon became icons and were worn by US presidents, in particular Ronald Reagan, who was photographed wearing it on the cover of Time magazine.

Following the success of the first Tribute to Lira watch, which was dedicated to the historic 500 lire ‘caravelle’ of 1957, Corum has recently designed a watch for Editalia that also features the Italian Lira: the famous 500 lire coin of 1965 dedicated to Dante Alighieri. At the time, the coin was minted to celebrate the 700th anniversary of the poet’s birth; today, we commemorate the seventh centenary of his death (he died in 1321). Its timeless beauty now inspires and gives shape to the original and distinctive design of this watch. Masterfully crafted and elegantly designed, it stands out for its technical excellence and fine craftsmanship thanks to the prestigious Sellita movement, offering extreme precision and an incredibly small mechanism. A fascinating and prized collector’s watch in which aesthetics, history and identity are wonderfully combined.
