L'età della nostalgia. Populismo e società del post-lavoro

Author: Gandini, Alessandro

In the period following the economic crisis of 2007-2008, nostalgia offered Western society a comforting refuge in the face of the contradictions of the present and the difficulty of imagining a future. This often stimulated populist fantasies that invited to "regain control" or to make certain nations "great again". Alessandro Gandini suggests interpreting this nostalgia, which marks the beginning of the 21st century, as the historical consequence of the end of the model that established itself after World War II, built on work as the main foundation of social cohesion and an indispensable tool for "living well". This would therefore represent the most striking symptom of our manifest inability to conceive an organisation that goes beyond this model, thus becoming the common denominator of a series of cultural and social phenomena – from Baby Boomers to Millennials – which span several generations and correspond to different and in some ways incompatible world views.
