‘The sum of the areas of the two squares on the legs...’: this is one of the many concepts we learn at school, and then forget as we grow older, and many of us still remember it to this day (or at least the beginning of it!). But how is the Pythagorean theorem used in everyday life? Is it just a formula to be memorised or rather, as we are told by a scholar who has made it her mission to talk about mathematics, is it the key to understanding the world and achieving mental freedom?
