H 24 cm - ∅ 24 cm Bowl. Hand-turned in white clay. Two-tone glossy turquoise and oxidised copper glaze.

In 1955, the architect Ettore Sottsass began frequenting the Manifattura Bitossi to experiment and create new ceramics: this marked a highly important moment of transition for the Florentine company, opening a new chapter in the history of Italian design. Among his simplest and at the same time effective creations is Alzata grande. An essential abstract design meets the two-tone dualism of bright turquoise and oxidizing copper, a product that is the result of hand-turning white clay, with the decoration in coloured enamel: all these elements contribute to creating a unique object. The Alzata, designed to decorate a table or a sideboard, becomes an assertive design furnishing accessory: thanks to Sottsass’s creativity the object boldly stamps its personality on any room, bestowing the surrounding space with elegance and a timeless presence.
