    The History

A history, an artistic excellence, an all-Italian passion

The history of the famous Venini company began in 1921, with a meeting between the Milanese lawyer Paolo Venini and the Venetian antiquarian Giacomo Cappellin, who jointly founded the Vetri Soffiati Cappellin Venini & C. In the same year, the sophisticated Venetian artist Simone Zecchin took over as artistic director of the company: from this fertile union the famous Veronese vase was born, still today a genuine symbol of the company. Tradition, innovation, style and creativity have been the signature ingredients of this brand, a leader in the glass processing sector, for a full century up to the present day. The tradition of glass processing has its roots in the twelfth century. And for the last century the Venini company has developed it further, knowing exactly how and when to ambitiously open up to innovation. The 1920s and 30s saw artistic partnerships firstly with Napoleone Martinuzzi and then with Carlo Scarpa, in a long series of important participations in the Venice Biennale of Art and the Milan Triennale.

1949 saw the creation – from a drawing of a skirt ruffled by the wind – of the iconic Fazzoletto, the famous vase designed by the artist Fulvio Bianconi. In the following years, Venini was called upon to illuminate the most prestigious buildings internationally, transferring its fame in Italy to the whole world. The collaborations with artists, architects and designers such as Ettore Sottsass and Gae Aulenti, Paolo Portoghesi and Alessandro Mendini continued: in 1992 his Galassia collection was presented at Euroluce, together with Mario Bellini's I sogni Infranti collection. In 1997 fashion and the masters of Venetian glassmaking embraced, thanks to the collaboration with the designer Gianni Versace who personally designed the V.V.V. collection. (Vetri Versace Venini).

At the end of 2020, the new Pigments collection was exclusively presented, in which the secret colour combination recipes that have made the company famous were combined with a contemporary style, testifying to a desire for rebirth. The skilled hands of artisan masters of the Furnace, accompanied by the creative flair of great historical artistic names, continue to bring to life products that are works of art, masterpieces of glass glistening with grace and refinement. Thanks to its most sought-after processes - such as balloton and opaline - and its daring style choices, Venini is a paradigm of Italian quality craftsmanship, ambassador of an expertise admired worldwide.
